THE ROLE OF NEW TESTAMENT PROPHECY:

New Testament prophecy primarily serves to  build up, encourage, and comfort the gathered body of believers.

Key Purposes of Prophecy is for Eedification for the building up the faith of individuals, exhortation by urge believers forward and provide spiritual strength and course correction (this is not the same as punishment). There is a catagory when to openly rebuke a suborndinate infront of everyone (most New Testament Churches correction is in love and inprivate without public shaming). And finally, consolation that brings comfort during times of difficulty or distress.  All given out of love not a lust for power and control.

The early Church addressed to the Assembly: Prophecies were typically spoken to gathered believers rather than serving as private, one-on-one messages (without the supervision of a Pastorship). All Prophetic utterances are subservient to Scripture: Prophetic messages had to align with established apostolic teaching and Scripture, and the early church was instructed to evaluate and test what was spoken. True Prophetic expressions point toward the identity, work, and reality of Jesus Christ rather than drawing focus to the messenger.
